Music is one of the universal joys that connects us to ourselves, to each other, and to the greater world and beyond. I believe that music education is more than learning to play an instrument proficiently; done with care, it cultivates curiosity, independence, and self-awareness. Music can be a joyful delight that celebrates life, a meditation that helps one learn to be present, and a practice in recognizing and pursuing excellence.
My approach to teaching the violin emphasizes learning to play the instrument with ease and fluidity while nurturing a spirit of inquiry in the student. As a steward of my students’ musical journeys, my role is to help them grow through consistent practice and dialogue. Session by session, over time, I help students develop their self-confidence, mindfulness, and independence as artists. Beyond proficiency, my hope is to help my students find their authentic, individual voices.
I have taught at many respected institutions in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Sonoma State University, Cal Music Prep, and the Crowden Center for Music in the Community, and I am currently on faculty at St Mary’s College of California. I have taught masterclasses across the USA at the collegiate level. It is my aspiration to share the knowledge that I learned from my teachers and to use the spiritual awareness I've developed through my own artistic life to help inspire the next generation to be active, curious, and empowered citizens of the world.
I maintain a private teaching studio in Redwood City, California, with students ranging in age from 8 to adult, from late beginner level to post-graduate. To inquire about my rates and availability, please contact me using the form on this website.
