Oh dear
Okay, I’m a delinquent, I admit it. Not that it’s not terribly obvious at this point. There have been some developments that have made things at least kind of interesting though:
1. I am almost finished a song. I mean it. I didn’t have the time to sit down to focus and just finish the stupid thing when it was fresh, and now it’s just kind of slipped into the woodwork. Now I’m not even sure I like it any more. Go figure. I’ll see what I can do around my math homework to be done with the stupid thing.
2. I won a one-year position with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. They have yet to send me the paperwork, so I have no idea what exactly the deal is, but it could be fun!
3. Got a ‘Dear John’ from the Canada Council. Oh well. I’ll try again in November.
4. Acquired a couple new pieces of equipment that both improve recording quality (especially live stuff!) and allow me to go mobile. Sweeeeet.
5. Said recording equipment also came with some legit software — Cubase and Sonar. Although both are Light Editions, it’ll be a good chance to learn both programs. It also means that I’ll be able to start posting about the more technical side of things in much of what I do in detail without having to sidestep anything.
Between auditions and trying to finish a math course by the time I leave for Verbier on June 26, I’ve not had a whole ton of time that I’ve dedicated to writing. My plan is to take my little mini recording studio with me to Switzerland and then rather than do chamber music, spend my spare time conning other musicians into helping me do some recording etc. Who knows, it might even work! For sure it’ll at least spare my poor tendons and nerve casings a little bit.
